We have a reputation for imaginative performances, great harmonies and a quality blended sound. We have won Stratford and East London Music Festival several years running, and sing at a events both locally and in London.
-
We sing everything from jazz, pop, music theatre, to classical.
-
Some experience of singing is required and there will be a simple audition for all prospective new members. (No sight reading).
-
We put on two concerts a year and there are opportunities to perform at other events in the year.
-
We learn from sheet music, but parts are also taught at rehearsals.

Rehearsals:
-
Warm ups and Vocal Technique.
-
Learning songs from music copies but parts are taught
at rehearsal and some singers learn by ear.
-
Performance skills, including some simple movement.
-
Musicianship and choral blend.
-
A wide variety of music and singing styles.

Entry requirements and Commitment
-
Audition: You will be asked to sing a song of your choice to me, and I will assess your suitability to join the choir.
-
Commitment: Most of our singers love being part of Modality and try to attend every week. However, I appreciate that people have busy lives and won’t always be able to make every rehearsal. Putting on performances and building a great team requires a level of commitment and some practice at home. So you would be expected to attend most rehearsals in the term.

“As a founder member of Modality, Jenny has nurtured a community of singers which gives old and new members a sense of pride as we experience the ‘joy of harmony’, blending our voices together to create something beautiful.
Learning new songs, Jenny transforms what could be a tedious task into a high energy and fun experience.
The shared effort of learning new music, along with the laughter and friendships is what makes Modality special and makes it a highlight of my week!”

“I came to Modality on a friend’s recommendation. I only joined in November 2025 but it’s already become ‘a bit of Monday joy!’ Familiar songs with the most beautiful arrangements and a lovely welcoming bunch of people, who together make sounds worth listening to. I can’t quite believe I’m part of it.”
(Tricia, Soprano)
“You don’t have to be able to read music when you work with Jenny. Just follow her expert and enthusiastic encouragement and before you know it, you’ll be performing in the front row of the choir and enjoying every moment!”
(Chris, Baritone)
“I joined Modality Voices in September 2025 after being in the audience for several of their concerts and seeing how much they all enjoyed themselves as well as how wonderful their voices sounded.
Jenny is an inspiring Musical Director, she is talented, committed and energetic and our Monday night rehearsals are filled with purpose and achievement - alongside lots of laughter.”

“I feel so proud to be a part of Modality Voices.
I joined just over two years ago, in 2024, and have not only met genuine kind and committed choir members but have thoroughly enjoyed the high quality singing and great opportunities to perform at a number of concerts and events.
Jenny is amazing, she strikes a perfect balance with rehearsals being relaxed but very focussed. She is very talented in bringing out the best in everyone.
The choir meet socially and enjoy being with each other.
I can’t believe I have found such a nice group of people who give of their best and make great music together.”
(Frances, Alto)
“Singing in Modality with Jenny is amazing. I love the choice of music from jazz, modern to original and classical pieces in the mix and her arrangements are always fun to sing. Our choir continues to grow in confidence, and there are regular opportunities to perform at some interesting venues. There is always something to learn and stretch you as a member, and practise is required between sessions.
Ben, our Modality accompanist, brings a touch of magic to the choir.”
(Alison, Soprano)
“Joining Modality in summer 2023 has been such a tonic. The community is supportive, nurturing, and joyful, and the members are both talented and deeply committed. Jenny is an energetic leader, and her arrangements are original and inventive. The music is wonderfully diverse, with a beautiful focus on harmony and blend. I love the performance opportunities — we grow stronger each time — and I look forward to it every week.”
